Maybe it all had to blend in ? Pc's / Macs with the furnishings of the offices at the time ... and TVs etc with the wooden decor of the TV cabinets etc ? Perhaps the consumer WANTED that at the time and the manufacturers had to comply.
I would love to see brushed aluminium in different colours... rather than just the silver... but then again, I like lime green and orange computers... !!
