Default The dash (-) in vehicle number plates

What's the reason behind that? I'm asking because I applied to have a tracker installed and the lady told me that no one really cares about the dash.

Surely there had to be a reason.

We have two vehicles - one with and one without, but they're both CF

I think it's entirely dependent on which crowd does the plates. In Durban they use it to split groups of three ( eg. ND 721-127) just makes it easier to read.

Certainly makes sense since the one car has two consecutive 3's and they're separated by the dash.

    Thanks!
