Currently when you go in I can't remember if the EU servers were the only ones available. I did not look for that, just for the server I wanted to find and selected it. So I think your problem will be it will give you only the EU servers to choose from, and no US. So when using the US server account it may give an error... So that is a maybe. Sorry I can't tell you anything more.
Of course with a US key it may only give US servers to choose from... Which is what you want if the region locking is in place.

Good to hear. I got frustrated with not being able to play with my wife in Divinity's Reach, so changed to a US server with low population. It took 2 hours to change. Then we still couldn't sync our characters. At least Anet have said they will sort the issues out before launch, as a lot of people I see were unable to play with friends due to spill over not working smoothly. Anyway at least the change to a US server did work, albeit, a 2 hour wait instead of the 2 minutes it initially said.
