Thread: Worth getting a Nintendo Wii for the virtual console?

  1. #1

Default Worth getting a Nintendo Wii for the virtual console?

I'm kinda entertaining the idea of getting a Wii, mostly for the virtual console and games like Smash Bros. I've been on the lookout for a Nintendo 64 or GameCube for a while now, and haven't had any luck - when I find them, they are R1000+ anyway.

So, is it worth picking up the new Mario Kart bundle for R1799, or should I save my money and wait till the Wii U comes out?

if you want old games, why not try out an emulator like project 64 and roms? nintendo 64 roms are tiny.like 5-20mb on avg.some bigger. game cube roms are around 1gb.

I suspect the Wii U is going to be expensive at first, at least for a while after the launch. A lot of nice and entertainig games on the Wii. I liked the party games when friends are over.

I have an emulator on my computer, but it's not an elegant solution for multiplayer on the TV in the lounge. Will keep it in mind though.

I went to the shops just now to go look at pricing and availability... The selection of games available is pretty average in general, but I'm considering the Wii for the first party content and the virtual console anyway. I'm keen on picking up Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy 1 or 2 as well. Can't find Super Smash Bros. Brawl online or in store... So disappointed. Will keep looking.

Anyway, I didn't buy the Wii. Want to think it through some more... But strongly considering it for the nostalgic reasons of the Virtual Console and the first party games.

Was never a big Zelda fan in the past, but Zelda: Twighlight Princess is the best. I think it was the game I plaid the most. The new should also be great. I unfortunately sold mine and bought a Xbox. But I still miss it. The last game I enjoyed on it was Wario Land (Wario is Mario's evil/greedy and funny alter ego)

Okay, so I've been reading some more about it, and got some questions. I thought we had official online services available in SA, but can't seem to find a conclusive up-to-date answer.

Can we even buy Virtual Console games in SA, or does the location have to be set to UK or something else?

I have a couple of virtual console titles. Yes, set location to UK and the shop is yours. You can buy points directly on the console withh a CC and get games.

There are a couple of Wiiware gems as well.

I picked one up yesterday, along with Skyward Sword and another remote. Pretty awesome so far! Have it set to UK as well for the Virtual Console. Anyone want to trade Wii codes for the ambassador program? We'll both get 500 free points, right?

Thanks. Found Nintendo ZA while researching the Wii this weekend. Since I don't know anyone with a Wii, would you mind swopping Wii codes for the Ambassador program? We both get 500 points as far as I know.
