Default hacking ps3 to see adhoc networks

I know the ps3 is designed to see access points which is infrastructure mode.I read somewhere on a linux thread that companies like sony.....etc injects code so that the wifi part of a device can only see AP's.

I would like my ps3 to see a adhoc connection. How can this be done
If its a hardware issue ,what then.
Has it got to do with the mac address..if so i can change mine.

Let me know your thoughts on this as i am sick of my failing connection.

I don't follow? adhoc networks are even more flakey than APs, so why do you think those will help?

My wifi module on my laptop dont support softap. My ps3 refuses to see ap's,i think its a firmware fault.Sometimes i get on the internet and sometimes not.I think the adhoc connection will be better and cheaper.I hate the lan connection.

All i want to do is have wireless and cancel all the clutter.

Where do i buy those wifi dongles that has a ap.Anything more than R400 is a no go

Right so I'm assuming you've got a ADSL router and that sometimes the PS connects & sometimes not. Chances are that the PS is fine (lots of people have one & it works with all kinds of tech), so chances are the AP device your using is the problem.

I'd suggest troubleshooting the current setup first: Set the AP to b/g mode, set a fixed channel (1, 6 or 12) and (temporarily) drop the encryption to WEP. If you can move the two closer to each other.

I guess you could buy a device to fix the problem, but its gonna be hit & miss since you don't really know what the problem is yet. Just pick a wireless dongle & google whether its supported by Win7 softap.

I think other softap software supports more gear. Forgot the name of it though.

adhoc...battled with that crap a while ago. Total waste of time back then (WinXP days)...maybe it changed since then. Dunno.

K, so I've just woken up but here's a solution that works with phones Try a program called Connectify, it creates an AP that Android and iOS were able to see (as they could not see Ad-hoc networks) so there's a chance this might work with your PS3 as well?
    PC: i5 2500k@4.4Ghz,Asus P8P67,8 gig,OCZ 120gig SSD,Asus GTX680, LG IPS235, Logitech Z5500
    Console: PS3 slim 250gig
