    I've sent them the link.

There's a big difference between giving notice that future registrations will not be accepted, and the domain service ceasing to exist, however this might be the first nail in the coffin and that would be very sad.

True true, but not being able to register new .za.net domains after the cut-off date makes ZANiC dead in my eyes.

Ow well, at least there is still co.cc domains for free.

If you want something without hassles, you must pay for it.

Whats wrong with getting a .co.za for R4.17 per month?

Those doing business analysis should watch this company, as this will be another one example of a business that will close down.

These domains were somewhat popular due to the free offering, they have no other value in terms of reselling domains. If they do have any value at all it will be very, very little.

co.za should see an increase in sales though.

What company? It's a guy and his wife who did it as a hobby/sideline.

I can't say I'll be shedding any tears over this. I liked the .za.net domains 10 years ago, but it's come back to bite me in a mean and nasty way when I was moving all the domains I host DNS for off a dedicated server with one provider to a DNS provider. One of the domains just would not update. It would not show up in their queue. It's like the request for that domain disappeared into a black hole. (And before you ask, yes, there was nothing wrong with the request - I diffed it with one that went through, and all that was different was the domain name). I repeatedly tried to contact za.nic through the email and fax on their contact page, with no effect. The net result was, I was stuck with the dedicated box, costing me a lot of uneccessary money.

It was cool when I was a student and they were free etc. Bit of a mission to set up if you're not familiar with DNS etc though but zoneedit was good enough. At some point I needed to update a domain and it took over a month which meant about a month without email through that domain and since then I'll rather pay R50 a year for a co.za. Also for any company I think it's inexcusable to use a za.net when co.za is R50/year.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so

net.za exists and there are a few registrations in the zone. I believe that they are planning to re-open this SLD for registrations soon.

I believe that there are around 100 applications that are currently in process for new TLDs. If you have a few $100k lying around you could apply for .dev
