If you really want a free vanity domain then why not sign up for a .NOM.ZA? www.nom.za

Im sure that there's been a significant increase in demand for domains within these two name spaces since the notice was announced, shall keep an eye on the stats to see growth over the next few months.

What's the turnaround time on a nameserver change request for a za.net domain?
    Still over 30 days?

This is very sad news indeed

There is nothing “tacky” about za.net / za.org domains. Most of co.za is parked to some arb international company – unless you are trying to register a whole sentence for your domain name.

It was really great to have a “for South Africans only” domain space that was both free to use and had an excellent name vacancy compared to the pay-for domains.

Kudos to Christiaan for having made the service available in the first place and keeping it up & running for almost 15 years now!!
