Default Marantz NR1402 + Jamo S416HCS convince me to say no.

    Hey all,

So Dionwired have their special of the Marantz NR1402 and the Jamo speakers for R8k, and I am looking for a reason to not get them...

So if anyone has any reason why I should skip them or a better system for the money, please convince me

PS I currently have the Logitech Z5500 for my HT and PC gaming needs, so this should be a nice upgrade...

If trees could scream would we be so cavalier about cutting them down. What if they screamed all the time for no reason?

I had a quick discussion with my inhouse audio expert. Old amp, lacks standard features such as USB connectivity. 50W RMS, but two channel, so if you run all the speakers, you will only get 30-35W. (The reason they providing small speakers).

I didn't end up getting this, was in limbo with my lease and may need to move out. Didn't want the extra stuff to pack until I was sure I am staying put.

Your inhouse expert is talking ***. There's a discussion in the HT bargain thread about the technical specs of the receiver, and it puts out more than enough to power the speakers (which are great BTW). It's 50W RMS of continuous power (not peak, as claimed by other manufacturers) per channel. And I'm not sure which orifice he's pulling 30W per channel if you connect the other speakers.

It's not the reason why they're providing small speakers with this deal. The receiver handles the Jamo S416HC (which they usually provide with their other deal) just fine, all the way up to -15dB without any distortion. I've tested this but haven't gone further because my neighbours would complain!

Just an FYI - to anyone who does get it, if it sounds flat when you connect it up, increase the input source level on the receiver to 6dB or more.
