Apple tv2 Jailbreak XBMC

Hi guys,

I have tried to jailbreak my atv2 and install xbmc but I'm having no luck! It may be because the atv is running iOS 5 and I do not know how to revert to an older version?

Can anyone offer some help please or even better is anyone willing to do it for me? I'm based in Midrand/Sandton.

Apparently you can't downgrade it, unless you upgraded it from 4.x and dumped your shsh blobs upgrading.

Best thing to do is don't update your ATV2 any further, and wait for the jailbreak to develop. Right now you can do a tethered jailbreak though: http://support.firecore.com/entries/387605

I read up on the tethered jailbreak, apparently it does not support xbmc yet? Unfortunately I got the atv with 5.0 already installed

That's what I hear too. I'm stuck with that now, I've been waiting for the ATV to come with 1080p, and now that it does, I can't run XBMC on it (yet). Without XBMC I have little use for it, since I don't consume any video from the iTunes store, couldn't care less about NFL, and have NetFlix on the XBox.

So I discovered that xbmc is available on ios5.0

However I'm having problems with the tethered jailbreak. The restore in iTunes returns an error. The guide I have been using from the xbmc wiki page says if that happens to restart the entire process... Tried this and still get the error

Does anyone hopefully have a fix for this? Anything I can try? Thanks

So I successfully managed to jailbreak my atv2! Untethered!

Was about to attempt the xbmc install (apparently it's now supported on ios5.0) but unfortunately the download link is down at the moment... Eager to give it a bash once it's up again. Hopefully it works!

On 5.1.1? Which tools/docs did you use? I might just go out and buy one today

Check out the xbmc wiki page... There's a tutorial for installing on iOS 5. And I used the latest version of season pass.

Now I'm having a problem setting up smb share... I either get error 2: share not available, or nothing shows up under network locations. Google has not helped yet

Aah, it's been updated then. Last time I checked it still warned me to stay away from ISO 5.x
