I heard them saying that ever since the security guards went on strike. we have seen a decrease in bank robberies.

Is this true?

Is there really that many bank robberies every month, for them to be able to track this trend?

Would be interesting if it is true.

Dunno about bank robberies but Cash in transit ? Yeah hundreds per year.

I was doing research on CIT (Cash In Transit) Heists the begining of the year and there were over 1.7 per day for last year in the country.

Just to come back to louisp. There has not been a discernable drop in CITs for the past 2 months as compared to last year. There have been less overall so far this month though.

Figures are according to the security companies data that I have collected. These figures are "unofficial" as technically one is not allowed to release crime statistics without government approval. (this therefore also serves as a disclaimer)

Total for March & April: 102
Total for May: 15

These figures are country wide and take all attempted (whether successful or not) heists and holdups into consideration, including armored car transfers, guarded transfers and pickups.

* Figures are also not necessarily update to the central security offices timeously, so this is not necessarily a 100% reflection of fact.

With regard to CIT the SAPS have a lot of experience and have learned how to combat this scourge.

I take my hat off to those cops that have to deal with these professional,ruthless and experienced criminals.

Some of which have had military training I might add.

Oh joke. Cops never had a handle before - now everybody goes on strike -and there is a drop in CIT?! Me has to think really deep to NOT see the connection.

Think we should wait to the end of the month to even consider drawing conclusions. Just a stab in the dark, but i'm guessing there might be more heists towards the end of a month?

Correct. The most heists tend to be between the 22nd and 28th of a month
