Thread: New iPad 3G issues

    Default New iPad 3G issues

Got my new iPad on Friday, and I have been having 3G connectivity issues ever since. I'm using the same Vodacom Micro SIM i used in my iPad2 for a year with absolutely no issues. It can't maintain a 3G connection for more than a few minutes. I even did a soft reset on it, but to no avail... I checked online and it appears to be a "known issue" lighting up Apples forums. Anyone else having the same issues here in SA?

I got my new iPad two weeks ago in the USA and I haven't had an issue with 3g since I got back last week. Maintains 3g connection, no problem!

Maybe try a full factory restore to iOS 5.1.1. If that doesn't help then return it.

My iPad 3 works fine (on CellC)
    Current iOS is 5.1.1

I'm not aware of any similar issues raised on the developer forum though...

Unfortunately the public Apple forums are not moderated so you can't always just assume the complaints are always valid.

Valid defects are logged as bugs on bugreporter.apple.com (you need a developer account, or a friend with one)

If you haven't updated to the latest iOS (do that 1st), secondly if the device is still within the replacement period I'd suggest making it their issue and demand a replacement.

If you've exhausted all avenues and would like a response from Apple, PM and we can open a bug report for you.

Get them to provide you a written document when you reported the fault and that it was still within the replacement window (if that's the case) -- and then if they don't have stock, get them to agree that you will keep your current iPad until they have the replacement ready. I.e. you should not be inconvenience by this.

Thanks! Good plan... Man I wish we had an Apple Store here, I see on the forums that they are just replacing iPads, no questions asked, overseas, when that particular fault is reported...

Yes I've had the pleasure to have things fixed by them a few times, no questions asked and typically instantly replaced for pretty much most faults.

Unfortunately our market is still too small for Apple to come back into SA.

I've noticed this as well on my iPad. Maybe it's a software thing? I'm with Vodacom on prepaid. Other than that, all is working as expected.

Nope, it appears to be a mix of hardware and software... Take it back, I did, and my new one seems to working fine so far...

I have the same problem. I have to reboot it everytime I want it back on 3G. It seems that when I switch form 3G to wifi and then back to 3G it always needs a reboot. I am on Vodacom post-paid.

This software or hardware flaw is to my advantage, at least my data won't be eaten up behind my back I just switch off the data and back on again to regain 3G connectivity. But I hear your gripe if you want it always on, thats what you bought the 3G version for.
