Strange that they would not have done that ages ago? It's not like they entered the cell game yesterday. Well, let's hope they get cheaper

It's more because they have to use different suppliers because of MS's stupid hardware restrictions, they can't get the bulk discounts they get from their own suppliers.

what you call 'stupid' is the only reason why every single Windows Phone can provide a silky smooth experience.

Probably also one of the main reasons why no one buys them, but of course for that there are many.

    Sorry, this makes no sense.
So your thinking is: "Microsoft makes every single WP7 have a minimum spec which means I can know exactly what performance I can expect, so I refuse to buy one".
And if you are talking about money, then the Lumia 610 and upcoming lower end devices will be fine for you...

I would face palm, but would get head trauma.

Top range specs create hype and sales, just ask samsung or HTC. Nothing wrong with a minimum spec, but having a max spec is utterly retarded, especially when its so restricted. Why do you think all the WP efforts by the manufacturers (exception maybe nokia) have been half assed and run of the mill. Because of MS's stupid restrictions.

    Max specs? Please elaborate.

I thought MS only defined a MINIMUM SPEC to get the OS to run?

There is max specs as well see, well you can include higher but the OS will not be able to use it.

See for example HTC Titan's camera that is not fully supported.

Well, for general use of the phone, putting a quad core CPU will do nothing but kill battery. So even if the OS could use it, it wouldn't. So basically, MS was hoping that people weren't so concerned with comparing theoretical penis size.

I'll agree with you when it comes down to the general UI then yes quad cores might just be a waste of CPU and battery life, but when you start pusing it in say games and running full desktop OS's on your mobile its more than just a e penis contest.

    See for Example
    Shadowgun THX for Android http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmvJxbHWZSU
    or
Infinion blade 2 for IOS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4vTqozhDWo

And yes I know its not everyone that goes for this type of thing.
.... and thanks for all the fish.

And it's not just about quad core processors it's also high res screens, better camera's, more RAM exct. as I understand it all these are standardized by microsoft most of these will have a negligible impact on battery but would have made users jump ship to the platform far more readily, at the moment all the windows phones are dull with almost nothing standing out that would make me want to switch to another OS.

Exactly, for example the background app limit is 5, if you run more than 5 the oldest one gets booted, if they allowed extra ram then they wouldn't have such a problem
