SGS2 ICS update

Hi everyone,

I updated my SGS2 today OTA (Vodacom) and it said everything was successful but then every 5 min i see in the notification tab that its trying to connect to update servers, then it syays

"failed to update due to network or server problems. Try software update via settings, software update, update, or try using PC kies later"

So i tried to update again and it just repeats the above message again and again and again. When i connect via kies it says i have the lastest software. i wiped my system cache and still no change, Anybody else experiencing this problem or can help??

Check out this thread. I think on page 6 or 7 there is a post to get it and flash via odin without rooting. This could sort it out

thanks for the info BazzaR, as soon as theres a new update available then i will def flash via odin and then kies update ( never ever OTA again!! ) @Mornej yeah after hours of research online i managed to find a temporary solution for our problem ( atleast until theres a new update then we have to flash like what BazzaR said) Follow this link and itll show you how to hard reset your SGS2, you have to reset it because if you dont then it will constantly try to connect to servers to update and KILL battery life, so after you hard reset it, it will stop trying to connect to the servers and you will have full ICS features and amazing battery life. However, when you click on update on your phone it will still say failed update etc etc but everything will work perfectly. The only thing that may be affected is your wifi... If it doesnt work all you have to do is disconnect from your home/work wifi, reset your router and then reconnect and re-enter your routers password. It should work perfectly then. Remember to back up your phone before your hard reset... If you follow BazzaR's link and flash via Odin then only update to ICS through Kies

I have installed the latest version of kies and when it starts up it gives me the following message.

There are new components for kies. Some of the components of kies needs to be updated for firmware management. Do you want to upgrade now?

When I click yes it runs to 49% and stops.

Any ideas? I love my phone but kies, not so much

Have you tried doing a clean installation of kies again? or tried installing kies on a different PC ? Heres a few links i found that might help you

I agree, Samsung phones and tabs are amazing pieces of hardware, as for the associated software... meh!

Thanks JuBa, my phone is sorted in a way, but as for kies....I gave up. Installed it on 3 different laptops and get the same problem

upgraded mine as well on wi-fi and seamless... enjoying ICS immensely!

only issue is the sms-contact-view-if-nr-is-wrong issue... if nr does not exactly match the contact (+27 intead of 0 at start), it does not show the contact details, just the nr.
