You should probably trial it for a month and make an informed decision based on your own experiences.

I have 2 line rented through Cybersmart and have been using a number of ISP's, Openweb, MWEB and more recently Afrihost. I emailed Laurie and told him I wanted to move the lines back to Telkom and then to Afrihost to take advantage of their bundled offer.

He was having none of that and I'm staying put for now and at a very reasonable rate (pretty much matched Afrihosts offer).

Cool. I'll email him again. What package are you on now?

I see the 1Mb option is now R375. I want to switch from my current package but am concerned about the speeds people are reporting. Anyone have any more updates on performance?

That's R22 cheaper than Afrihosts 1mb bundle!! Good to see the hunger back at Cybersmart!!

Laurie was always reluctant to enter the uncapped market if it mean't compromising the quality of the product. If they in, they'll be in with a quality product!!

Not too much support for them on these forums though. I'll be able to give you input on the 4mb and 10mb uncapped accounts as of the 1st of July....

Cybersmart's uncapped offering appears to hate torrents... Browsing gets decent enough speeds, as does HTTP downloads... but I need THE TORRENTS!!!

That sucks. Line speed? Have you tested the torrent on a capped unshaped account? That's really the most reliable way to confirm the health of the torrent.

I had a capped Cybersmart account and it loved torrents... I did all my downloading at night and consistently got around 100kB/s... switched to uncapped and immediately all downloads at night switch to 1kB/s. Strangely enough, during the day the speed goes up.

I'm also on capped and get around 100kBps. Sounds like I need to stay on capped or find another ISP. My cap is starting too get too small (and I only download a few torrents a week).

I have experienced the exact same frustration regarding the extremely slow torrents. Not liking this at all. So much for uncapped and even some videos dont always stream fast. I hope cybersmart gets there act together and stops being so stingy. So much for loyalty. When i first moved over to uncapped 1meg 2 weeks ago, the torrents were really fast and then the following week down to a slow crawl. Not sure if any cybersmart user came across a page on the cybersmart site mentioning uncapped users being throttled heavily if they download constantly. It doesnt display that page anymore but they are clearly enforcing that rule strictly and very soon into the new uncapped package. I am really unhappy.I hope he is listening to his customers.

Today was a surprisingly good day for downloading torrents... Lets see if it continues or if this was just a once off fluke...

I've was with Cybersmart for around 6 years. Had a 384k capped package, then moved to a 1mb 15gb package and then the uncapped. Their download speeds were always great. The only thing I hated was the video streaming and online gaming latencies, it was horrible. The reason I decided to change to MWEB is because I'm home only every weekend or every second weekend so the internet wasn't used often. One day I came home and browsing and video streaming was really CRAP, so i logged onto the site to check the status of my account, and there was a message "suspected using other ISP increasing OtherISPCount by 3". So there it was, slow connection speeds from there on out! They thought I had another ISP as well so they throttled or wtf ever my account!

So if you want to download a lot but have crappy latencies and slow video streaming, go for it!

I been renting my line from Cybersmart for almost as long as you have. I've used Mweb, afrihost and openweb and with zero issues.

Please post a screenshot of that... because I did it for years and never saw anything like that.
