    Default Vintage game consoles where?

    Hi everybody.

I happened to pop into Cash Crusaders in Plumstead and saw an oil panic Nintendo game and watch for R399.

I am aware it wasn't that cheap and they knocked a further R30 of the price, but my appetite for vintage consoles is fierce!

So glad i finally own my first Game and watch.

Im looking for a breadbox Nes, Sega Megadrive 1, Jap Snes, Nintendo 64 and original Gameboy(boiled cabbage screen)

Basically all cartridge based consoles so i can start my dream of having a mini gaming museum, but prefer Nintendo with its colorful history.

    Where does one get bargains?

I checked Ebay, but people are a little sneaky with certain consoles, and charging a lot more then they should, or i get outbid at the last minute.

Locally, i have rarely spotted the gems i seek and would love suggestions, or if you have spotted any classic consoles at amazing prices.

    I would love your suggestions/opinions.

Hi I am a retro game collector, and I can say without a doubt that its close to impossible to find any cartridge based console systems from Cash Convertors or Cash crusaders, as they simply dont purchase them from customers, they believe that there is a market for them.

The only options left to you are:

1 Bid-or-buy, (they now have a retro game section) but the prices are insane, expect to pay R1000-R1500 for a NES or N64

2 Gumtree, If your quick enough sometimes you can spot a bargain

3 Ebay, Probably the best place to find systems, but you need to look for used, unboxed systems, as the shipping price costs way too much otherwise, allso you are protected by PayPal, just be aware that it will take a while to ship to here (3-6 weeks depending on where you getting it from) and customs will probably charge you a lot a bit as well to import your console

As for consoles I have a spare NTSC-J N64 I might part with, but it wont have spare cables or controllers, as well as a Sega Saturn or two,not going to sell ether but if you have a older system your willing to trade Ill help you out.

PS My collection of consoles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWTC09pN-p4 , I allso run www.retrogame.co.za but its empty at the moment, very little interest in SA for retro gaming.

I don't suppose you have any spare cases for the original Xbox lying around by any chance?

I must look for my Dual Screen Donkey Kong as I must have it here somewhere.

    I love retrogaming.

@FaSMaN: Get hold of Zombie Dredd from Zombiegamer. http://zombiegamer.co.za/ They have a weekly slot where they feature SA gaming clans or groups. http://zombiegamer.co.za/category/zombie-community Maybe he can feature you one week and get some exposure for you.

All gamers love nostalgia and how they got into gaming playing some game when they were young.

Yeah totally agree, but i mean where did all the thousands of consoles go?

Years ago there was an abundance of Toaster Nes, Snes Megadrive(Original) , N64 even Dreamcast.

Are all the collector's just snapping them up, thus drying up the market?

@Wayne, thats a delightful little wooden veneered console you have there.

May i ask if it was yours for all these years and you just kept it or won it in a poker match or something.

@Bokka1, that DK game and watch is on my want/hit list you lucky bugger!

To tell you the truth I haven't really been in contact with any one yet about it, I don't really want to approach some one with a site that doesn't have much content on it, thats why I try when ever I can to add some more content on it first, in the form of articles etc...

So far Ive only posted links on a few places and google indexed it (its page 2 if you search locally for "retro game"),but its worth a shot, thanks for the help

Have you tried adjusting the pots on the unit? http://dogbreath.de/PS1/LaserAlignment/Laser.html ,just be sure to jot down there original values so you can set it back if it doesnt work for you.

If that fails you can actually use a laser out of a slimline scph-102, the enclosures are different slightly different, but you can open them and swap the lasers ,and it will be good as new.

If you cant find a psone just drop me a line, my local pawn shop has tuns of them

PS I am reading your sig and I cant stop smiling, thats a great rig, are you a member of vogons?

It depends on what games you have, and in what condition its in, not to mention how much you want for it
