Default Sony Ericsson WT19i (android) / Vodacom -problem

My wife has the Sony Ericsson WT19i (Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman) and it has a problem that causes it to reboot.

Been reading up and it seems to be a common problem:

One guy sent in his phone for repairs repeatedly and they repeatedly came back to him and said there is nothing wrong with it. He eventually made a video (after holding his camera on it for hours) to prove that it is in fact faulty: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWG-EgYtDsI

Apparently this could be a bug in the firmware and is fixed in an update (not available in SA it seems as the update software says its up to date) Been waiting for an update since March (when we got the contract) but no dice. Overseas they do have the update...

Its an intermittent problem. /happened 3 times today /caused her to oversleep the other day.

What to do? I am worried that a repair center would do the same to me as they did with the above mentioned guy.

I'm thinking root and go custom/new rom but don't want to void warranty.

Yeah but his might turn out to be a hardware problem.
I don't want to risk it (give them an excuse not to repair).

Bump. Perhaps I should have posted this in the Vodacom section.

So I did a reset of the phone to factory settings, and inserted the original SD card. It ran for 3 days without a reboot, but did so again last night. It went into a reboot loop until we took the battery out...

Thumbs down Kudos to Vodacom for trying/failing to fix the phone

Aanyway... Long story short: I took the phone to Vodacom World for repair, I tired to explain to them that I already did a factory reset and reinstalled firmware from the updater software, also that this seems to be fixed in newer firmware overseas /the lady behind the desk had no clue "we would probably have the new firmware".

I got a message to collect a week later, the job-card said it was reassembled by third party as it was still under manufacturer warranty. That very night it rebooted again and continues to do so from time to time.

It came back with exactly the same firmware. I am not sure if they did anything.

Kudos to Vodacom for trying to fix the phone tho , at least I had fun driving to midrand and standing in the queue x2.

I will see if I can fix it myself by rooting and going with a newer ROM.
