Being able to double as a cell phone is a really useful feature and something I miss on my iPad2.
Still pricey for a Huawei though?
Well wait for the contract prices.
There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't.
Hmmm, I could go for this, ideal for light travel. Where can one get this ?
I will always have a 10" tablet though, looking to replace my Xoom with an Asus Infinity TF700 - just want the faster processor and Full HD resolution !
I'm sure some deserving family member would just love to have the Xoom, it's still a great piece of kit !
I'm ashamed of South Africa. It's an absolute disgrace that you can pass matric with a mark of 30 percent." - Jonathan Jansen
Mmmmm. That's quite expensive for a 7 inch tablet.
The so-called Nexus tablet (Asus MeMo 370t anyone?) is going to be released in the next two or three months with a $150 - $200 price tag. I'd wait for that if I were in the market for a 7 inch tablet.
The only Huawei device I'm interested in is their Ascend P1 S smart phone.

Problem is the screen resolution, want at least 768 on the short axis - 600 is not on.

This device debuted some 7 months ago. The Ideos S7 was already superseded by the S7 Slim in South Africa, and I hoped then that by xmas time the Mediapad would have been available on contract. Despite the 256K colours this IPS LCD was well received, and the performance was lauded.
Recently there has been a clearout with the S7 slim not being readily available. I have no idea if this Mediapad 7 is going to be available on contract, but it is rather late. It will have to compete on price.
What tablet called 'mediapad' has <8gb of storage :/
too pricey for me at 4300, rather get an ipad 2 at 3999.
Roosters crow at the Dawn hoping to rouse the Barnyard, but the Owl knows it is still late at night. The Foxes are about. The Master sleeps.
THIS IS WHO WE ARE
That price is fairly outrageous! I can get an iPad 2 for R4000, an iPad 3 for R5000.
I would consider this at R2000-2500, it's only got a 7" screen.
The only thing I miss on this device is stereo sound when watching movies. If insist on stereo, it would be stereo sound from vertically placed speakers!
Just because a tablet is 7" doesn't mean it should inherently be cheaper. This one is pretty well specced out. Remember it has proper quad-band 3g phone capability and a 720p IPS screen which is going to be very sharp at 7", 1gb ram and a dual core 1.2ghz Snapdragon on 4.0. The only real weak spot is the storage but sd cards are dirt cheap now. It's a fairly premium product actually.
By comparison at the $200 mark you can get a Kindle Fire with:
- No 3G or phoning
- Lower screen resolution
- Crappy UI on 2.3 that must be rooted and hacked to be even barely usable (trust me)
- Much slower processor and GPU
- 512mb ram
- No camera
- No expandable storage
I'd say this is a bit overpriced but not that much. You do get a lot of performance though.
It has 1280x800. Not 600.Problem is the screen resolution, want at least 768 on the short axis - 600 is not on.
