10Mbps doesnt need to be upgraded. It was only just rolled out like a year ago, first concentrate on getting the 4Mbps users up to 10Mbps, then you can start increasing the speed.

Bit strange that the 1mbps upgrade is more certain than the 384k upgrade. The 1mbps subscribers were recently upgraded from 512->1024. Though I guess keep it at 384 creates a stronger incentive for users to upgrade...and thus pay for a higher tier product.

However, it is rumoured that KT Corp has proposed a flat rated ADSL access fee where subscribers will simply get the highest possible speed on their ADSL connection.
Pretty sure we're approaching the edge of what the copper is capable of anyway, so this makes sense.

Good News, But um... Telkom what about upload speeds???

Why can't all 4meg users be bumped upto 1024kbps on upload?

The capacity is already there and it would help for HD Skype calls.....

I don't want a flat rate. If I'm too far from the exchange to get max speed, I want a discount.

However, it is rumoured that KT Corp has proposed a flat rated ADSL access fee where subscribers will simply get the highest possible speed on their ADSL connection. Telkom has however denied that it is currently discussing a flat rated ADSL access service.
Maybe this compromise of stepped upgrades is a way for Telkom not to look like total dicks in the eyes of KT who can't understand the illogical SA model for ADSL products.

Sounds like good news but we have heard this SO many times before and then nothing. I'll believe it when I see it.

Every day I drive past our local Telkom Exchange and on most days you will see no less than 2 to 3 vans parked outside. Yesterday, there were about 10 vans and cars parked outside the exchange, I would hazard a guess it had more to do with the rainy weather than ADSL speed upgrades. Our exchange is still on 4Mbps.
You can take Telkom out of the Post Office but you can't take the Post Office out of Telkom.

It says that the decision on the 384kbps is still pending.

This worries me, guess i wont be counting my chickens before they hatch.
