Thread: Going ITX - why are the cases so expencive

Question Going ITX - why are the cases so expencive

I am thinking of replacing my HP DC7800 SFF, used for XBMC, with an ITX form factor PC. I'm going for a MSI board with AMD E350 CPU, seems pretty nice and up to the job for media PCs.

I just cannot understand why ITX cases are so expensive?! Is there somewhere that I can get a good deal on a decent ITX case?

    Define expensive.
Cheap ones are around R350, then you jump to R600 by the looks of things. Are you looking for a specific shape/style case?

Well I am actually thinking of getting two, one for my media PC which only needs one HDD and DVD so I guess a CFi 8989 (@ R500) will do. The other one will replace my current PC and for that I'll need more HDD bays. I was thinking of a CFi A2059 (@ R777)

Saw the Coolermaster Elite 120 that was shown at CES and it is perfect. Unfortunately it is not for sale yet and I'm sure it would be pretty pricey when it does go on sale.

    Any suggestions?

    CM Elite 360? Link

Or do you want to go as small as possible?

Personally I would stay away from any fan smaller than 120mm due to noise, but I'm a bit of a freak when it comes to noise (I run my HTPC fans at 7V) so maybe it wont bother you as much

Seems my waiting paid off - Elite 120 now in sale in South Africa. This has to be the best ITX case in that price range.
