This is why posting such an article too early is a bit silly. Doing it just to be "first" means that people read into it incorrectly.

I see what you mean. But, it sounds like if you want to stay on 1Mbps (for budget reasons), after the phase-in period you would need to apply for a line speed reduction to get the cost saving.
Note: IMO this sounds like 'inertia marketing', which could potentially be in contravention of the Consumer Proterction Act.
Yeah you'll need to downgrade after the change. I don't think that there should be a problem, as they're giving you a better service for the same price (not sure how budget factors into this as you're already paying that price). If you're happy with your existing service then the downgrade is free, and you'll get it at a lower price.

Telkom is truly the king of let-downs.
They need to manage people's expectations better, letting them know exactly what is going on means that the are never surprised negatively.
I really wish i didn't know about these upgrades until say....august maybe. Was looking forward to june ;/
Most people on this forum know exactly what our line speeds are, and what the pros and cons are (and are capable of dealing with Telkom), but not every user does.
I'm pointing out that with 1Mbps as the minimum option, Telkom has a statutory duty to inform existing 1Mbps users of the alternative, rather than just bumping them up. This was not an issue before, since there was always a large gap between the 384Kbps and 1Mbps, and all previous upgrades were much smaller increments (with no overlap).
Would be nice if they kept the 384 package. But lower the price significantly, this would allow low income households to get Internet as well, getting more people connected to information is always good.
