Thread: 3D LED TV - which of these 4 would you prefer?

  1. #1

Default 3D LED TV - which of these 2 would you prefer?

I'm not really interested in a brand war - everyone has had good and bad experiences with every brand, but I guess what matters to me more is spec. Which would you buy and why do you think it's better? I think one is active and one is passive, and according to this:

Do yourself a favour and have a look at at Samsung Plasma TV's as well. The picture quality is far superior and they work better with SD channels on DSTV.

Hey Wayne! Thanks for the input. I have a plasma currently and am very happy with it except I'm going for the 3D now. I do like the lower power for the LED / less heat generated but yes, I agree plasmas produce great images. I'll take a second look at 3D plasmas.

The Plasma heat generation/Power usage issue is also a bit of a fallacy. They do use more power, but not a huge amount more. Also with Plasma's stick with Samsung as they have a screen shift feature built in which prevents screen "burn-in"

The shift feature has been available on a plasma screen for over a decade - they're not new. As you know, burn in has also been a part of plasma for over decade ...
    Jägermeiʃter can fix that!

If it is 3D passive go for it, if not do not waste your precious time.

I second this 1 million % - You will cry a million tears unfortunately due to cost and pain and disappointment (and unpleasant surprises), if you buy active 3D. LG 3D Cinema is the best by far, no matter what you want to use it for since you wanna buy 3D. I have the LG 47" Model and couldn't be happier and my son loves playing Windows 3D games on it as well with everyone able to watch from anywhere.

I don't understand what the issue with active 3D's are, bar the price of the glasses. Before purchasing my Samsung D7000, I looked intensely into the LG Passives, as not only were they cheaper, but also "cinemascope". Looking at that playing the same 3D movie next to the D7000, disappointed me greatly. The movie was RE: Afterlife.... passive had decent popout where active was clearer and had a better defined 3D experience.

If you suffer with constant headaches, 3D either way isn't going to help. I use my TV for both 3D gaming (D3 I love you) and Blu-Rays and am happy. If money is your constraint, take a look at the Samsung D550 51" as it seems to be a generally rated very highly.

The above is largely what I noticed and my opinion. I researched everything I could for 9 - 10 months, went into different stores (this surprisingly can make a difference as setup is key) and asked to see the settings they were using to see if it was optimal (mostly not). I am no expert but have an eye for detail, which lead me to my purchase.

If you have any questions, I can answer as best I can.

Read, learn and enjoy. There are also many sites referring to the negative effects on health of the active glasses.
