Thread: Windows Webhosting

  1. #1

    Default Windows Webhosting

I have a small web application project being developed in ASP.Net MVC 3 Framework

I Require a Web Host with these minimum specs:
    .NET Framework version v4.0
    MS SQL Server 2005/2008/2012 (Between 1 and 3 DB's)
    Task Scheduler
    Storage: 1GB
Server Location can be USA, local not required.

I'm willing to spend max R120, but would prefer paying under R100 per month

A friend suggested paradigmsolutions.co.za but from the reviews in other threads it doesn't look good.. I also looked at circle.co.za but again bad reviews with regards to downtime/support. Some people on mybb and on webhostingtalk.com suggested Discountasp.net.. They seem fine but the cost is a bit too high for me as you have to pay an additional $10 for MS SQL DB which brings their price to about $20 (R165) p/m.

It's really hard to find decent ASP.NET hosting but these guys seem pretty good:

ultimately, you get what you pay for. if you want something cheap, chances are there are going to be issues. Web Africa is pretty good and has a few options. check them out

Yep, WebAfrica seems to have what you're looking for (approx R80 pm). Not sure if they'll allow the task scheduler, but you can ask.

With task scheduler I think he's referring to the Windows version of cronjobs? WebAfrica allowed us to do cronjobs every 5 seconds (oh, and we did).
Just be careful with WA's hosting though. Somehow they ended up switching off our php and that ended in a major security issue.

    Hi guys
my sister has a .com site hosted here, and I have a .co.za with the same people. I've just about had enough of things being "down"and not being able to get my emails, getting messages saying the websites don't exist etc. etc
The sites use Cpanel to do all the tweaking, Is there a huge difference between the different control panels?

Im looking at moving the sites to godaddy.com, has anyone had any experiences with them?

    Hi Ryan ,
please google godaddy complaints , people really dont enjoy their level of service.

Who are you having a bad hosting experience with ? Sorry but your post doesn't say.

There are alot of SA hosts that go out of their way to give you good service so shop around before making a choice.

    Hi Ryan.

Any host offering cPanel (we do), should be able to connect to your existing cPanel host, and do a full copy of both sites to the new servers. This should bring over the web data, databases, email accounts, in one move. We would be able to assist, but there are many good hosts....eg amplehosting.co.za, afrihost.co.za, etc. Do some comparisons, and we'll all be here to help you when you need to move sites. All the best. Dean.

I'm wading through all the offerings, and trying to decide.
At the moment my main factors are having 24 hour support, - the sites often go down on a weekend, and thats our busiest time. and having full control of the site - We used a host in Belgium who flat out refused to let us move the site, charged a fortune extra for emails, etc etc.
I dont want to name the host Im with yet, they are trying, but there are just too many straws landing on my back.
    cheers
