What is the general lead time on iPhones?

I know from the launch of the iPad 3 to it being available in SA wasn't too long - are the phones similar? MY upgrade is due 15 August and if the rumours are true, the phone could be here 4 or so months afterwards?

Yup. Just like when Apple dumped the floppy disk. And the serial port. And the SCSI connector. And the CD/DVD-ROM drive. And the spinning hard disk. Each time replacing it with something better.

The self-styled power users complain on the message boards for three months and predict the demise of Apple. Everybody else buys an adapter dongle if they really need one, and then everybody just get on with their lives.

The rest of the industry catches up three years later.

I believe this may have something to do with the EU demanding reusability, therefore a USB connector.

Btw, if that is really the new iPhone 5 then I'll stick to the iPhone 4 and switch to Cell C's cheap deal.
