Thread: WiFi VoIP Phone

    Default WiFi VoIP Phone

    Hi,

Does anyone have any recommendations for a low priced WiFi phone that I can use in the office?
There's not much available if I limit the Google Search to South Africa.

Are you using multiple AP's? if so go for a more expensive one.

Currently I use Linksys WIP330, theyre pretty ****, but cheap at the same time. Dont handle switching between AP's that well

You can also look at using standard analog wireless phones with a linksys spa 2102

Why not use a smartphone (iPhone or Android) with a SIP application like 3CX? As avert mention, the main problem start when switching between your wireless points.
The other problem (at least with iPhones...) is that the application stay on only for 10 minutes aprox (even if the app is supposed to be running on the background). Is an internal iOS problem, but I can live with it.
Not sure if 3CX has the same issue on Android.

I wouldn't go with a WiFi sip phone, everyone that I have tested todate sucks.

Rather get yourself a DECT solution, either via a SIP ATA, I recommend the Linksys PAP2 with a traditional analog DECT phone that you can pickup a Game, Dion etc, or alternatively something like the Gigaset A580IP or Snom M9.

+1 to DECT, currently using Gigaset A58, A510 & Snom M3 & M9 - IMHO Gigaset is far better than Snom (range, battery life & build quality).

Using CSipSimple app on the S2: if you only have only 1 (powerful) AP and great signal coverage it does work.

    no longer available ....
Even the single handset and base A580IP has been replaced by the A510IP. Much faster CPU , better firmware , better color phone. Same price as old model.
