Thread: Toyota Etios vs Polo Vivo?

  1. #1

Question Toyota Etios vs Polo Vivo/Ford Figo?

What do you think of the Toyota Etios in the entry level segment... R115 800

I'm dead against anything manufactured in India... what do you think?

I am dead against anything manufactured in S.A(vivo).I would choose the Etios, unlike the polo vivo, the Etios is build from the ground up,Oh and reliability.but save your money and buy a 2012 kia rio.

I went for a test drive in a hatch, a bit noisy but not too bad.

It doesn't come with a radio, and a normal radio is R3800.

However, you can get a bluetooth radio for R5200, and if you add that to the fancy model (+/-R121000) you end up having a car with a mean specification.

But don't know quite what to think about it.

The hatch looks OK, but the sedan is fugly.

Sure, but the best cash price for a 1.4 manual is R158 000.

I agree re: sedan... reminds me of the Nissan Tida Sedan. Not pretty. @ dupster - you'd rather buy a car manufactured in India over one in SA? I've been to India... perhaps I'm biased against it lol... dirty place. That's saying alot considering I live in SA.

Kia Rio? Eish... that's expensive. I'm still sold on the Vivo so far... the best looking car and it's a VW...

Actually the Rio is better looking... reminds me a bit of the Focus.

That Etios looks very Chinese inside. And outside looks like a Renault Logan. It's nasty. The best car in the price range is the Ford Figo.
Edit: Just reading through the NAAMSA figures for May and I see they managed to sell 1 315 of them (the Etios). Why?

    +1 Focus or the Toyota

Toyota bits are sourced locally. Insurance is better too.

Anything but the Etios... and VW Vivo for that matter. So common and insurance nightmares.

Why are you comparing it to the 1.4? The 1.2 Rio(65kw) is much more powerful and efficient than the 1.4 Polo(55KW) It really helps using a modern engine not something out of a Citi golf, VW don't even sell that engine overseas.
The 1.2 Rio is R139k but it is in a completely superior class to the other two, it competes with the new Yaris and Polo. It might be slightly more expensive than the Vivo and Etios but it comes loaded with features such as USB/Ipod/Aircon/Airbags/ABS/Electric Windows etc so you will not have to spend a cent on extras. It also has a 4 year service plan which the others don't so that more than makes up the difference in price.

@ MYDOGHASNONOSE-I agree India is as dirty as Sh@t,but their economy is booming at the moment, which means efficiency.the etios is not the only toyota that is build in india,25 % of hilux's is build in india and shipped directly to S.A and other african countries.

BUT the volkswagen polo vivo is build in S.A and is shiped to other southern countries, and the engines that is used in the polo vivo is the "leftovers" of the previous volkswagen golf(citi).

Toyota parts for this indian built model sourced locally?
Focus is in a different ball park price wise isn't it?

The Polo Vivo is SA's best selling car afaik... I still think there's a reason for that.

I am a big ford fan,but I will choose the etios only because the ford figo shape is very old and boring, but reliability is great!!.although the etios is boring as well, atleast it is a new shape that has not been "re-engineered".

personally I would not choose any of these cars.A smart buyer would wait untill he or she can afford a ford fiesta,i20,polo,rio...Not only is it more "up to date" but the resale value would be much better to.
