    Looks like the solution would be port to some other network first then port back to cellc so that you can get rid that stupid data SIM tariff plan

    You can only port once every 90 days.

    I have a few Cell C SIM's lying about....

    Anyone know an easy way of determining whether a prepaid Cell C SIM is a "data only" SIM or a "regular" SIM?

    Physically, they look the same and if I put the SIM in a phone, I can't find a way of requesting some sort of SIM status or type.

    I can listen to the current and available tariff plan on 141, but that's a bit confusing at this stage.

    My data sims have expiry dates sometime in the year 2030.

    I wonder what the rationale behind having separate data and regular SIMS's is in the first place?

    Considering all SIM's get allocated a mobile number, it can't be related to a shortage of numbers.
    Statistical purposes maybe? Bearing in mind all prepaid SIM's (with airtime loaded) can be used for a mix of voice, data and SMS anyway. Then there is also smartphone tethering and the like.

    I think this whole issue could be simplified by having one type of SIM only and allowing all tariff plans to apply, allowing the customer to chose as needed.

    I wonder if that expiry date will change the moment you load airtime on the data SIM and the normal airtime window period kicks in?

    Success!!! To a point, got my number transferred to a 99c plan but all my data and airtime is now on a new number on the original card with a new number. The teller has put In a request to have it all transferred.

    Nope. I have been using a data SIM in my phone for the last 18 months. I've loaded airtime, all-in-one vouchers and even a 3GB/365 voucher with no problems.
    The only thing I have not been able to do is migrate to the 99c for real tariff.

    Mine didn't. I loaded airtime and bought 100 MB. Expiry date still 2030.

    Well now I am puzzled....

    I have a 3GB data SIM, which I bought with a ZTE MF190 in a package a while back.

    According to the MyCell C website:

    It is definitely a data SIM.

    But when I put the SIM in a phone and do a *101# balance enquiry, I get:
    Balance=R18.00
    Expiry date: 31/07/2012
    Free Data =0.48 MB.

    Since I used up the data, I haven't recharged with another 3GB SmartData voucher yet.
    I have loaded normal airtime though, and of course I cannot change this SIM to a 99c for real tariff plan either.

    ajax, how or where do you see the 2030 expiry date?

    I see it on *101#, this is from my ex 5GB*12 SIM:
    Balance = R 6.85 Expiry date:22/04/2032.Free Data = 1829.06 MB.
    The "free" data is the balance of a 3GB/365 voucher I purchased a couple of months ago.

    Both my sims were 5 GB sims. Both show 2030 expiry dates through *101#.

    Actually it is two month period, not sure if it is 60 days or two calendar months.

    Hi All

    You can change you tariff plan once every month (30 Days) at no charge.
    Anything over that will be billed.
