    Default WAG120N or DSL-2750U

Forget about the price, can anybody recommend one over the other - need to buy a new ADSL modem/router/wifi asap since my 100WR crashed? Thanks guys.

    WAG120N FTW
Just beware it has absolutely NO protection against lightning

I like linksys products, but the 2750u has better wifi and has usb.

I like cisco and have used a few of their routers with much satisfaction, but not the WAG120N and I probably never will.

    I'd say D-Link DSL-2750U or TP-Link W8960N.

Why so much bad publicity for the DLink on the forum posts?

It's just recently where a few people experience PSU issues. If the PSU died, then just buy a new PSU.

In my opinion it could've happened to a Cisco/Billion/Netgear too. It's like when a lightening strike's surge hits your modem, in which case it wouldn't have mattered if it was an expensive Cisco or a cheap D-Link modem, because both would've died just the same.

As for the people who complained about the D-Link DSL-2640U or something which's firmware had issues, I would've just RMA'd it.

From my experience with ADSL modems and what I've read here on the ADSL/Broadband sections of the myBB forums, the D-Link and TP-Link ADSL modems are amazing value for money. Even though they are cheap, they still offer some of the best SNR margins (and implicitly ADSL stability) that you can possibly get. They also come with external antennas (which are also detachable), which would mean that if you're in a situation where you have poor WiFi signal strength, you can simply replace the antennas with higher gain ones to boost your signal strength.
The only thing lacking from the TP-Link/D-Link brands a that they don't manufacture ADSL modems with 1Gbps LAN ports, which is a real let down.

Lately it seems like Netgear pulled their act together in terms of ADSL SNR margins. It is just a shame that they still hide the advanced settings from the menu's or don't even support the advanced features like PPPoE Relaying (aka half-bridge mode).

I've been recommending D-Link and TP-Link products for the past few years, with the odd Netgear/Cisco high end router every now and then. Most people have been very satisfied with the D-Link & TP-Link modems, with the odd one getting a dud.

I'm not a rep for D-Link or TP-Link. I'm simply suggesting whats best value for money and I'm always trying to be as unbiased as possible. So if people are increasingly going to say negative things about D-Link/TP-Link, I'll most definitely start to look elsewhere - like I've started to do with Asus.

Personally I'd go with the D-Link. Very user-friendly interface

Not sure what price range you looking at or even if price matters but can look at one of these, altho never tested one nor do i know anyone who has. http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/p...oducts_id=1208

I use Cisco and love them. But ye, lightening not their friend. Been through 2 WAG320N routers and now use the 120.
Finally put some decent protection in so this one is lasting.

I bought a 2750u after good advice on this forum. It went ok for about a week or so until it suddenly started disconnecting every 2-5 minutes. It couldn't even connect at full line speed (1Mb), usually half way only. Googled the problem and eventually applied some advice found here which involved updating firmware to latest. Problem solved. The latency is still on the s h i t side compared my old billion 300.

    internaut:
Could you perhaps do a traceroute to like www.google.co.za ? If you are currently on WiFi when doing that, please run the tests while being connected via a LAN cable too.

Secondly, also post your ADSL statistics here..

It could easily be a faulty modem. I have not experienced such problems or ones that I have not been able to fix easily.

I would also check that the QoS system is not being painful.

    Otherwise, what pada said.
