Angry Dead Hard Drive - Western Digital WD20EADS Cipherwave Casing

So This afternoon I suddenly couldn't connect to the Hard Drive share on my micro server. Anyways logged in an saw the hard drive not showing up.
So rebooted, reconnected Hard drive (E-sata) connection, and nothing.
Put my ear to the drive and this strange whirring noise, almost like static from a radio was coming from the drive.
Connected it via USB, Nothing, tried on a few other PC's still nada...
    I'm assuming its dead....
Hard drive is a WD20EADS 2TB (Western Digital Caviar Green)

I did have backups of the critical stuff, but now I've lost my entire non critical collection... Also it still has a 3 year warranty with cipherwave, but i'm pretty certain they would just replace the drive... not repair, or am I wrong?

Also would there be any other way of getting it to respond? I could at least get some stuff of it...

Or is it just the cold.... !!! maybe I should warm it up near the heater or summin..
Looking to import stuff? PM me...

Can you be a bit more clear on the description of the noise it is making. If you power it up with it close to your ear do you a faint beeping sort of sound?

If you hearing a 'whirring' noise then I'm assuming you are hearing it spin up. Does it spin up to full speed? Does it spin down again? Can you hear any movement from the heads?

There's two things you can do here, if the data on it is worth paying for Southbit can recover for you, it will however void the warranty.

Otherwise have it swapped on warranty, they don't fix it they replace it and you will not get any of the data on it.

    Here goes...
    Turn up the volume...
HD turns on at around 6-10secs

Mechanical issue, would require opening the drive and replacing components, that's if it's even recoverable.

    RMA it.
