I guess they weren't told when it was updated. Slack.

I though it was always like that, even when the Lumia 800 launched? Offline Navigation has always been Nokia's chief attraction.

My thoughts exactly. Offline navigation has been around since the N82 (from what I can remember, might even be earlier than that).

Nope - on the previous Nokia Drive version (for Lumia 800) Nokia Drive would not even start up without a connection - got a message that an active internet required for Nokia Drive to work. This is sorted now, but the Nokia call centre does not know their product and the supervisor on the floor is extremely arrogant. I use to have a C7 with offline navigation - now if only the Lumia 800 can sync to my nokia maps account ....

Just checked but your try sync your favourites from your previous phone to your Nokia account and open Nokia Maps on the Lumia and resync. This worked for me.

One reason why I'm holding tightly onto my Nokia 5230.

Its navigation works quite well - as long as you know that GPS units do have their own quirks.

Plus I got free navigation for the lifetime of the device. Hope it lasts long

If not, then I can use my Droid.

Pho3nix - I have been trying to sync from Nokia Drive (there is no option for this) and not from Nokia Maps .... Off course not helped by the call centre saying it can't be done. Did sync from lost phone to Nokia Maps online so I should be sorted now - will post tomorrow on whether I managed (today I am using my Dell Streak 5 ).

I still use my Nokia 6110 Nav (+-5 years). Excellent GPS and phone.

And Microsoft has just announced that the Lumia 800 will not be getting the Windows Phone 8 (Apollo) software update, so it's dead.

    R.I.P Nokia Lumia 800
The Samsung Galaxy S2 - It is the only phone you will ever need.

So you can sync favourites to Nokia Maps, but you can only see them with a connection and can then navigate to them. You can however not select them from Nokia Drive (navigation that works offline). So the problem is not solved. Would appear I (and my wife and kids) am an android convert after 16 years off using Nokia - so I think Grandmaster should have said it shorter: "R.I.P. Nokia."

And an additional gripe: I thought it standard to connect phone to PC and be able to copy (drag) files across from phone to PC and have SMS capability on PC. Not with this piece of junk - zune software is not intuitive and some functionality (as described above) that Nokia had for many years on PC Suite has been dropped. This is my last Nokia phone - can upgrade next year April and can't wait.

The irony is that Windows Phone 8 supports USB Mass Storage Mode - where your phone's storage just pops up as another drive in Explorer and you can simply drag and drop all your music, pics, docs, etc.

In Windows Phone 8, they have done away with the Zune software.

If only the Lumia 800 could have upgraded to Windows Phone 8. Windows phone 7 and zune was obviously a stopgap solution - me thinks they have done more harm than good with it. I would have happily used symbian till there was a decent new solution on the table, but now I will rather go the Samsung/Android route next time around.
