Thread: Insurance question. Please help

    Default Insurance question. Please help

Hi guys. I need a bit of advice please.

Our insurance company fitted a new geyser for us. 150 kwikqot. The geyser the burst within the warranty period. Now they want to charge us R1100 excess.

That is the price if it is out of warranty, so basically the warranty makes no difference in the price.

This doesnt seem fair, is this the norm? What can i do?

    Thanx

If the geyser burst in warranty - then surely its something you take up with kwikqot, not your insurance?

(ps, if they're anything like Franke, they'll find an excuse not to honour the warranty, e.g. incorrect piping, wrong drip tray, wrong pressure valve, etc)

Given that this is the Mobile Broadband thread, I think the answer depends on the speed at which the geyser is connecting to the Internet, and its basic latency. Is the geyser capped? Is the hot water allowed to roll over to the next month? Prepaid hot water bundles are usually more expensive than contract.

And does roll over work on the "bucket" system?

Under warranty? Call kwikqot and they'll send a plumber out to replace it. Unless there is any other water damage caused by the burst then I'd leave my insurance company out of it.

When my kwikot geyser burst a few years back, I called my (home owners) insurance company (Standard Insurance - sh|t company but not in this instance). They asked when I purchased it - happened to be under warranty. They arranged for Kwikot to come and install the replacement geyser. No excess

Did you argue with the insurance about this?

Its nothing to argue about - if your TV gets fried by an electronic surge while under warranty and you claim from insurance - its not their problem whether its under warranty or not, the warranty has nothing to do with them.

But if they are not paying for the replacement geyser or the labour, how can they charge excess.
