Thread: Need 3g for light gaming, what are my options?

Default Need 3g for light gaming, what are my options?

I only need it for 6 months, after which I will be getting ADSL. So I would assume some kind of pre-paid data topup deal would be ideal but the Vodacom site is so terrible it makes it impossible to see what the different deals are. I checked the 3g coverage in my area and its definitely covered, I would probably use around 100mb/week or so.

Can anyone advise what package would work best, and if Vodacom has decent enough 3g ping to use for gaming (HoN, SC2, D3 etc)

why vodacom? they are the most expensive. if you got 8ta in your area, try them....decent ping rates 250ms on european servers.

The 8ta coverage misses me by like 1 meter. They seem to have the least coverage of all the cell brands.

True but they promise it will be sorted in 4 months. It's ridiculous. There is no 8ta data coverage in Camps Bay. None.

For gaming I would recomend 2gb +2gb @149. Or if you have an android phone you can share your devices broadband by teatering its what I do but I'm guessing you have a blackberry.

AFAIK the 2gig + 2gig night owl is only for the R199pm package. The r149 does not have night owl. But if I were you I would stay away from contract if its going to be for only 5 months.

Did you test reception with a prepaid 8ta SIM, 8ta is really your best option.

the R149 does have night owl I had one and currently have the same with the R201 router http://www.vodacom.co.za/personal/ph...ackageTypeId=4

for 6 months have a look for pre-paid at cell c might be the best option, unless you take a R99 from vodacom for two years and use it for a backup or if you have a laptop\tablet or something.

The 2x2Gig is a 24month contract, there simply ain't no decent prepaid deals for Vodacom atm.
    Isn't it the 3x3Gig which is R200pm?

Only 8ta and CellC have something decent atm. Vodacom on Diablo3 give 300-350 ping on EU when Blizzard isn't messing around.
HoN has a lot more various servers around the globe so anything from 300-400 EU unless you play locally which would give you 150-200ms to IGames.

More gamer orientated prepaid deals would be nice...
