    +1 for Silent Witness...

and Morse ... and ... WTF: just about all of them

Wallender - though not UK-based - was shot by the BBC & starred Kenneth Branagh. Awesome !!

    +1 for Sherlock Holmes

Also Being Human is brilliant and if I can add some older shows, Cracker with Roby Coltraine and Chancer with Clive Owen.

British drama & crime is just up my street better IMHO than the American ones anyday here are a few of many:

    Scott & Bailey
    Vera
    Identity
    Spooks
Strike Back (they are showing the 2nd series on m-net from Friday but I recomend you try & get the first series this is briliant!!)
Downton Abbey (One of the best historical series ever)
Upstairs Downstairs (similar to Downton but not as good)
The Runaway (based on Martina Cole's book of the the same name)
Appropriate Adult (based on the crimes of Fred & Rosemary West)
Life on Mars & Ashes to Ashes
    The Shadow Line
    Field of Blood
    Without You

All of these are very good indeed

Cant stand British TV myself. Probably due to being exposed to Eastenders as a kid..

British comedy on the other hand... brilliant

Have I Got A Bit More News For You ... has me in stitches every week.
Last week they had Alistair Campbell as the presenter... Ian Hislop tore him to shreds - he came close to losing his cool a couple of times

Wetn to the library today to get some new books and had a look at the video section and I found Fortunes of War which I took out. No idea what it's like but will be watching it later after I have ripped it (only allowed to keep videos for 2 days).
