    Default Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

    Hi Guys

We've had quite a few threads discussing Afrihost Uncapped products and bundles. If you're confused about where to get your questions asked, post them here or PM me, but otherwise I will still be checking the various threads to see where I can help out.

Anyone can sign up for an uncapped product from this link:-

    http://go.afrihost.com/afrihost-uncapped-awesomeness

You'll get 50% off your uncapped pro-rata and your first full month (does not apply to bundles).

    Enjoy!
If AfriMan says it, it is so!

Quiet thread, probably a good reflection on the product

For me - Gmail was rather slow yesterday but not un-usable, other than that it's been perfect.

Does gmail use local servers? I noticed that routing to google.co.za was via london yesterday

As far as I know, Google does have local servers, but they also change their routing depending on their own infrastructure. I don't think they post any notifications when they do

The end of the traceroute was cape town, one of the hops was in docklands... fail of note.

Google/Gmail was down on Mweb also for about 20minutes yest ^

As for the Uncapped Bundle account - running like a gulf stream. Usage at 48gig since I signed up the day the bundles came out,not being overly aggressive with my downloads, but it's more than I had on my Capped account so all smiles

Has anyone noticed a slight increase in overall ping? mine used to be 9, now its stable, but at 11.

I know its not much, but still... just curious.

I'm using the guide here - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthre...SA)-IP-address - to force Gmail locally now. Not all of it works/matters to me so I'm just using:

    ## Google Mail on IS
    196.23.168.147 mail.google.com chatenabled.mail.google.com
    in my hosts file.

Just as a matter of interest, i fired up a couple of torrents this morning.

When I left home, was doing line speed (600KB/sec)... So torrent shaping doesn't seem to be as harsh as some people have made out.

My ping has gone up again, now to 12 (I have my own TS server, and set it to show my ping). When I initially got the account, the ping was good at sub 10ms on speedtest.net as well as on the TS server. I know that it is not a huge deal, but I like to see pings come down, not go up!

The speedtests initially showed 9ms to newlands server, and 10 to mweb, telkom etc in the cape, now to Newlands they are showing 15ms.

Anyone having similar ping increase? it could be my exchange...

I'm getting 15ms ping to the Telkom SAIX cape town server, 3.64mb down, 0.48mb up.
17ms to Web Africa newlands on speedtest, 1.59mbps down, 0.49mb up.

(skipped a few hops because my router gives redirect messages sometimes - lan issue)

Seems ok - I have a server hosted in Hetzner's CPT datacenter (newlands) and pings to that are between 8 and 9ms.
