Default Bafana Bafana head coach candidates

The SA Football Association's (Safa) technical committee has fast-tracked the process to sign a new Bafana Bafana coach by identifying five candidates for the vacant post. Steve Komphela, Gordon Igesund, Gavin Hunt, Shakes Mashaba and Neil Tovey, were asked on Thursday to make a presentation on their strategies and vision after the technical committee, headed by Fanyana Sibanyoni, had held an urgent meeting. The interview and presentation process would start next week with the final recommendation to the association's national executive committee expected before June 30.

Down to Gordon and Steve now...

Hope SAFA do the right thing.

Gordon is the right man !

Komphela probably has the least accolades and experience compared to the other guys, yet its between him and Gordon. I think either way, surely SAFA must realise the team needs some new life to rejuvenate the squad and Komphela won't be able to do that

In my opinion I think the soccer team should seriously consider getting a new fresh set of players. Or better yet, close the national soccer team and rather build a new hospital or school with that money.

+1. It doesn't matter which coach we have. Alex Ferguson + Pep + Mourinho.

The one thing that you can count on safa to do is make the wrong decisions as far as coaches are concerned.

Interesting SAFA have said the salary they were paying Pitso and the Brazilians was unsustainable so the next coach will get a 'market related' package.

Common sense dictates that Gordon should get it but I can't help but feel that politics will once again rear it's ugly head and Steve gets piped.
Gordon has had his racial run ins in the past and this may count against him.

The other factor against Gordan is that he isn't a 'long term' coach. He doesn't stay more than a season or 2 at any club. Komphela has more international experience, Bafana assistant and U23 coach, but he failed badly at U23 level. He also doesn't have Gordan's record at club level.

Then he shouldn't be appointed. We need someone that will be there for 5 years + that will take the youngsters to 2018.

But then coach is not the problem. SAFA and current players are. No hope here.

If he wins he'll be motivated to stay on.Lose a few and everyone will be calling for his head.
The salary is more than enough reason to ditch his short term philosophy.
Making a decision based on Steve's international 'experience' would be foolish, given our track record abroad.

Gordon left Pirates straight after winning the title in 2001-02, he then won the title with Santos in 2001-02, and left to Ajax.

I would choose Gordon over Steve, as I said, Steve's U23 stuff up will count against him. But I don't see Gordon sticking around for long, win or lose.

I don't know why he left Santos but I can remember him being under a lot of pressure at pierats for his "boring" style. Didn't he have some thugs even visit him at the training grounds demanding he go?

Local soccer mean you win and then move on to greener pastures (better work conditions) with a feather in your cap.Coaching national team is different. From Bafana he can only go international so he'll stick around prove himself and then go coach somewhere in Holland.
