Thanks for contacting us. As per my voicemail, the brand manager has advised me that Vanilla Coke was originally discontinued in South Africa due to a decline in demand by consumers. However, should there be sufficient demand, we will definitely consider re-launching.

Coke + vanilla extract = vanilla coke. It's not that difficult.

Apparently, if you just add a teaspoon of vanilla essence to a 2L coke, you get the same taste. Haven't tested.

Also, vanilla extract and vanilla essence are different. Essence is artificial. Dunno if they taste very different though.

Tried it a while back. Threw away the bottle after the first glass. Leaves the worst after taste.

Interesting to note that Vanilla Coke was discontinued in the US in 2006 . . . and then subsequently relaunched as Coca-Cola vanilla in 2007.

Well, as per that recipe, I have tried it, but vanilla extract is very pricey!

Vanilla essence doesn't have the same effect, leaving a slightly sour aftertaste.

I've sent off an email to them pointing at this thread. In a perfect world, we'd get all our friends to add their voice to the call for VC.

The extract is far superior to the essence, but I can't quite get the mix right so far the best substitute is a Coke Float!

Just got the following response this morning:

    Hi *******
    *
Thank you so much for taking the time out to contact us with regards to Vanilla Coke. I see Jennifer did reply to you on Hello Peter and that is in fact the reason that we stopped producing Vanilla Coke.
With this said, we are definitely looking into your request as we have had quite a few requests from other loyal consumers so all I can say for now is watch this space.

    ----------------

    Good day,

Thank you for taking the time to read this email.

I have long lamented the loss of Vanilla Coke to the South African market. For the brief time it was on our shelves, I recall hurrying to the cold-drink refrigerators to grab two or three bottles of the precious vitae.
For many of us, Vanilla Coke was a sweet, refreshing reward after a long day.

I cannot drive past a MacDonald's store without recalling the enjoyment I would receive from a large meal and a large Vanilla Coke. The taste was at once exotic, yet familiar. One's tastebuds almost seemed to cry out, "Why hadn't we thought of this before??"

But sadly, the product disappeared from our shelves, leaving only fond memories and desperate searches on the internet for solutions, none of which could hold a candle to our beloved beverage.
Indeed, the one thing that can assuage these cravings is a Coke Float, but they are such a dedicated effort that it becomes more of a treat than a solution to the craving for Vanilla Coke.

I understand you didn't pull the product off the production line out of spite, but after careful consideration to the demand versus the cost. But I respectfully point out that over time, demographics change! Now, those youngsters with no purchasing power, who loved and craved your drink are income generators. Please, consider bringing back this beloved drink, and giving us a chance to recapture the enjoyment Vanilla Coke gave us all those years ago!

As a small indication of the interest held by others, I encourage you to visit the MyBroadband forums, one of SA's most active and tech savvy gathering places. I have opened a thread regarding Vanilla Coke there and in one day generated significant interest. Any feedback or communication you could wish to undertake with your loyal fans of Vanilla Coke could also be communicated there.
