Just Joined and Need Help

HI All

I joined this forum, coz I need help. I understand that there are some super smart people here, so thought I would tap into this font of all ADSL knowledge (is the flattery working?) Here is my problem:

I have intermittent ADSL signal. i.e internet drops, ADSL line disconnects randomly. I have contacted both my ISP and Telkom, who both tell me there is nothing wrong.

My little brain tells me that it one of 3 things:

1.the telkom line has lots of noise on it?
2. My ISP (Afrihost) has an issue on their end
3. I have a faulty router (netgear DG834G)

if 1 & 2 are supposedly ok.....is there a problem with my router?

Any thoughts?

It is possible that the router is a bit wonky.

Won't hurt to borrow a working ADSL router from a friend and try it out.

It either is your router and the line - by testing with a working ADSL router you can rule out one possibility.

Thanks, but here is the funny thing. The netgear is borrowed. I own a Belkin, which also had the same troubles.

From what you are saying, it must then be the line? I have had telkom here a twice, and both times they assured me that the line is working perfectly!!!

First step contact Telkom ADSL Support and let them reset the line. than check your line speeds through this link or check first, if you are on 384kbs, line speed should be over 300kbs
