Salary: how much is good?

Cheepers. I have 13 years experience in my job, with three degrees (busy with my 4th, my doctorate) and I am currently at the absolute top of the salary scale for my profession... and my monthly income (with benefits like motor allowance) comes to R15k.

Let my guess, you are in the ministry?

Per month. No joke. I must say that this is after tax. I do however work in a non profit situation.

But seriously, what is good salary for a 30 year old? This is assuming you studies straight after school, got a bit of experience. Thus excluding unqualified jobs like burger flipping. Across different fields. Whether I am a government worker and my friend a doctor, it does not change the fact that I think someone my age earns well or not. By the way, my brother is government and earns R40k, while he wants to leave because he has nothing to do. And he started with R30k. So government jobs are not that bad if you don't mind not doing much and not being challenged.

In all honesty, everyone has different goals and desires. By 30, I want to be around 1m CTC. I have an electronic engineering degree but didn't go the PrEng route, I prefer the business side of technology. At 25 I was well over 500k, so my goal is 1m by 30.

On the other hand, my brother who's 29 this year, is already over 1m CTC. He is however an actuary working for an investment bank here in jhb. He aims to be retired by 35 lol.

One trip to pick n pay is over 2k in my life...

If you're in the same field and have the same qualifications then that should not be the case.
