    Default Springbok Test on e.tv

    Better late than SABC never!!

Johannesburg - SuperSport and e.tv have reached a once-off agreement to broadcast tomorrow’s rugby match between South Africa and England on the free-to-air broadcaster at 10pm.

Happy Ntshingila, CEO of SuperSport, said he was pleased that attempts to make the match available to free-to-air TV viewers has come to fruition, despite the short notice.

Monde Twala, Group Head of e.tv Channels Division, said: “e.tv is excited to have the Springboks on our channel. Although this is a once off deal, we will always welcome the opportunity to ensure that the majority of South Africans are able to view their national heroes. We would have liked to have the opportunity to broadcast the Test matches a bit earlier, but given our schedule and time constraints, this was impossible.”

The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport 1 and HD1 from 5pm, on SS4 at 7pm and on e.tv from 10pm.

This follows a joint statement earlier this week from rights holder SuperSport and the SABC that the SABC would not show the matches on television.

SABC acting chief operations officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng had explained that the SABC had decided on principle not to broadcast events it could not show live.

At least one broadcaster cares about the countries sport.

I caught a bit of the match on radio ( admittedly was driving at the time otherwise would have been 3GTV\Drifta ) but it was like stepping back 30 years: all in afrikaans and the only thing going through my mind is, "Is this what the government calls progress? The only option to a lot of folks is to listen on the radio even though they pay TV licenses?".

It's a joke but its certainly not funny.

Let's face it the 'mainstream' still want it in Afrikaans.
