Default It's sink or swim for Nokia, say observers

Nokia job cuts, strategy shift a slow suicide – oberservers

Nokia’s surprise announcement of massive new spending cuts and 10,000 more layoffs had observers cautioning the beleaguered mobile phone giant is at a crossroads that will determine if it sinks or swims.

As Nokia continues to trim down and in light of its share price — which since Elop announced the strategy shift has fallen from above 8.0 euros to below 2.0 euros — has meanwhile made the company a prime takeover target, observers say.

“That’s certainly possible,” Rauhala said, mentioning Samsung, Microsoft and Facebook as names circulating as potential buyers.
12000+10000 retrenchments sounds to me like Nokia is deliberately looking for a bailout in the form of a takeover once those retrenchments have been concluded, having said that I don't know anything about the highfalutin world of corporate takeovers and there must surely be legal requirements surrounding retrenchments that Finnish employers are required to abide by (or maybe this will be the first time that so many have been axed at one time).

Oh and if Nokia gets taken over, I think it will be by Microsoft (obviously).

I'm still convinced Elop was "planted" at Nokia to infiltrate the company and make it possible for a takeover by Microsoft, or for Elop to steer Nokia straight into Microsoft's arms and start collecting royalties from them for Windows Phone licences.

Just think about this....Nokia shares used to be worth US$40 in 2007 and now it's just under US$3 in 2012.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 - It is the only phone you will ever need.

Time to do some research, then. He was recruited by the board, and apparently turned them down twice.

Maybe Microsoft had a chat with the shareholders?

They love to move in when things are not well at a company.....I recall a certain fruit company that had to bundle Internet Explorer with their OS.

Dec 21st 2012 won't see the end of the world, but the end of Nokia.

Well most sane people predicted this after their Microsoft announcement, cost of backing the wrong horse.
