$800 is only R4,837
That being said, I think it will come out between R5000 and R6000 here
The higher price is due to various reasons, but the prominant ones being much smaller consumer base, import regulations and duties
My reasoning for saying R8000 is because the 360 retails for $400 and costs about R4000 here.

I did a similar conversion with the price of 2 30G iPods costing $600 (and costing between R5000 and R6000 here)
They definately have priced themselves too high but i dont think it'll mean a failure for them, they have plenty of fanboys who have been saving for yonks for this machine.
But i agree H_GP, the PS3 is @ the back of my console list.
@Vio, your numbers are just a tad skew though. The PS3 is $500 & $600 in the US, the 360 is £280 in the UK. So the trend of taking dollar and adding a "0" does work, but on the US prices.
He clearly explained his reasoning - as he mentioned if you look at the price of the xbox360 here compared to the states it is as if they just added a 0 at the end. The xbox360 retails here or about r4500. Call it the SA Merchant rip-off surcharge. There's no reason to expect them to do otherwise with the PS3.Originally Posted by doobiwan

its worth more than $800 coz of its contents anyhow... Sony should just bite the bullet and loose out in the PS3 just like MS is loosing out per X360 sold.
