To me the current iPhone is just the right thickness.

Then they make their older models fit into the cheaper buying spectrum.
A great aspect of the iPhone is the simple choice. There's no need to spend a lot of time comparing processors and screen sizes trying to find a reasonable phone. They make one size with some memory options.

Hopefully they'll never try to make the phone that big.

    * Samsung Galaxy S3 is now the most pre-ordered gadget in history at nine million - beating the iPhone 4S's four million
    * S3 will be fastest selling gadget in history
    * Analysts predict Android usage will swell from an estimated 350million users today to one billion by end of 2013
Don't misread me. What I meant is that none of the other handset manufacturers are following Apple's strategy of releasing one single smartphone per generation and only choosing to differentiating it from its predecessors. I didn't even remotely mean that there is no competition to the iPhone. Whether Apple is correct or the competition is correct in their assumptions is a matter of opinion.

Yep herd mentality works the same way no choice "hey theres one running lets follow "

Hopefully they'll never try to make the phone that big.
Thats not big at all,its quite apparent to me by now that you haven't actually owned or used many modern smart phones or you'd know that the iphone 4s 3,5 inch screen is simply too small for a modern smart phone, yes i do have one but i bought it because i needed a change from android because i tend to get bored of my tech stuff easily but trust me the screen is too small.

I thought the Galaxy S2 looked good until I put it next to an iPhone 4, then it looked a bit lacklustre. But the HTC One X screened looked good, and I'd expect the S3 to be at least as good.

It depends what you are comparing exactly, resolution wise yes the iphone is better but the s2 definitely offers better contrast and deeper blacks that the iphone cant come close to.With the s3 though the iphone no longer has a resolution advantage from normal viewing distances.

Those deep blacks cant be matched by anything other than Amoled even Sony's bravia on the xperia s which does better than the iphone and htc one x cant beat the deep blacks, contrast and viewing angles of nokia/samsung amoled.

Most people are not going to notice all that stuff, which is why they buy an iPhone because it looks better than the others (build quality & feel). I just saw an HTC One X a few moments ago and it suffers the plastic look of Android makers. It is very light but plasticky too. I admit, the Note blew me away with its display.

I find the Amoled screens make colors a bt too vibrant, almost neon.

S3 screen is actually underwhelming to me. It's basically the same quality as the SGS1 except for the resolution and size. One X is much better.

I think Android suffers from trying to be bigger, thinner, lighter but not always being better. You hold an iPhone and it isn't the thinnest or lightest smartphone but it feels proper, substantial and well built, it feels as if it is a quality product. Android phones tend to be plastics that are flimsy and creaky and even the flagship phones like the S2 and S3 don't escape this. The S3 is massive, it doesn't feel comfortable in my hand and there is no chance I could type one handed on it. It feels way too light for its size and thus feels very brittle. The screen is impressive but didn't have the same impact on me as the first time I saw a retina display screen. Also in a strange way, I feel Samsung screens feel like Sony TV screens with the very saturated colours where as Apple's screens are more like Sammy TV's with the more lifelike tones.
