There must be an underlying condition to cause recurring nightmares. It can be diet related, but more common is latent stress. Do you ever have panic attacks? If you think you might have come close to one, or find your heart racing for no apparent reason, there are medications that a doctor can prescribe that can assist.

My brother in law had both the above, at different times. After countless doctors his thyroid was diagnosed as being over-active. Not saying that is your problem, but I would consult a medical professional. Its important that you get a good night's sleep.

Of course, sex is an instant calmer, and if you have an understanding partner, so much the better

Very interesting. Definitely have stress at the moment. Now and then I get heart palpitations but not that often at all.

Go and see a doctor tomorrow. He can prescribe something that will assist straight away, then do more tests to determine the exact condition. How old are you?

Just out of curiosity. Do you have different nightmares or is there one specific nightmare bothering you?

The thing is I hardly ever dream. For the light anxiety attacks I get, I'm using Inderal. My sleep patterns is a bit off though. Anyway, I don't think this has a medical connection.

It's about something stupid and cruel I did 12yrs ago and somehow the memory came back or I've spoken about it and now I can't stop dreaming about it - it's been about a month now and i've probably dreamed this dream about 7/8 times already. BTW, I'm 39 . This is very embarrassing

Diets contributing to recurring nightmares? Really? I'm very interested in the field of dreams so any scientific evidence pointing to this would be appreciated. I'm not dismissing this outright, but the only people I've ever seen espousing the view that diet contributes towards dreams have been chakra-aligning, crystal hippies. I've never seen any evidence pointing towards diet influencing dreams. I've read hypotheses regarding physiological issues contributing to dreams but they're very difficult to quantify.

Considering that dreams and their function, influence and reasoning are still mostly a mystery to us, whoever has been able to determine the causes and influences of dreams must have been able to answer some of the fundamental questions surrounding it. Or they're just tree-hugging hippies doing romantic guesswork, as usual.

Here's a mybb thread about dreams, if you're interested...

Best way to stop this is not through the pill but to workout what is the cause and then face the issue. This you can do by yourself if you are able or get help via a proper therapist. There can be no effect without cause...

Everybody has nightmares, I doubt that hormones affect things very much. Ekstasis just forgot to pray is all.
