McCrazieGoalz, I am 100% in agreement with your above post. I've been tweeting at NokiaRSA, nokia, MTN South Africa, and Gerard Brandjes all morning, saying the exact same thing. I really want Nokia and Windows Phone to do well, but priced higher than an HTC One X? And so close to the S3? Makes no sense. They have to adjust the price before it is in shops on the 28th or they will lose customers

    Yeah, how ridiculous!
My contract ends next month and I was seriously thinking about getting the 900, but with these prices I'd be a complete idiot if I didn't rather go for the S3....
On specs sheets alone this is a complete ripoff.

I have been doing the same. But we both know MTN doesn't quite respond in twitter. I believe they have the wrong perception of the market. Personally I'd buy the Lumia 900 just not at that price.

Yup you'd be a complete idiot! And a bigger one if the HTC One X was an option to you.

ITS SO SO SO SAD what these operators do. And what their market perceptions are. Then they'd pay millions to consulting companies to solve their problems. And those consultants job is to take a look at a market logically and reasonably and suggest answers. Any reasonable one would suggest what we tell them for free on this forum. I cannot understand the stupidity.

Even Vodacom makes more sense on their Lumia position. Almost like they kinda know we are not too hyped up about it.

Somebody mentioned about LTE: yeah if we had it, I am not too sure the 900 would have arrived with the correct frequency bands. Case in point is the iPad 4G. It came through anyway although that's a side effect of getting the 3G model.

Well just announcend no upgrade path for the new Nokia Lumia 900 to WP8 Apollo, nice way to screw your customers. What the point of buying this "legacy" phone now.

Yea, this phone is dead now. Absolutely no point in getting this, might as well wait for WP8.

I suppose there might be some specials on this soon.

I'd like to try one for a few days, just to see what it's like.

I cannot understand how people that lead major companies can made decisions like this that will just cause more market loss.

The Lumia 900 won't be getting Windows Phone 8, so it's already dead in the water before it even launched in South Africa.

Anyone buying this is gonna cry his/her lungs out when Windows Phone 8 launches with true multitasking, support for HD displays, support for micro SD cards, integrated Skype, Nokia Maps + Navigation - the list goes on and on.

Expect the Lumia 900's price to be at least half after a month of the official launch.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 - It is the only phone you will ever need.

    This
Really bad time to buy a MS phone, but I would've loved one.

I reckon my next phone will be a Samsung or HTC running Windows Phone 8.

To be fair, it is not all that different from the Android situation and to some extent like the iOS situation. With the iPhone, the latest version supports at most 2 models back i.e. 2 years old phones.

    Android:
Google comes out with a version every year... very true.
Each version more powerful than the one before... also true.
How many manufacturers pass down the changes to us?... not many.
how many do so in time... even fewer... LG is still rolling out gingebread to some phones right now while ICS is 8 months old

The saving grace for Android is the open source community around it. Still how many regular users will go that root (pun intended)... not a significant percentage.

So for all intents and purposes, upgrades only matter over a 2 year period for most users. because in 2 years they tend to upgrade. the exceptions either jump ship or don't upgrade or whatever. By the industry average, 2 years signifies 1 major update between buying phones.

This update, microsoft has brought through to an extent. I am not a microsoft fanboy trust me, but as much as no WP8 is not nice, I wouldn't pan them entirely about it. Since they're not entirely the worst case here. Android manufacturers have absolutely no excuse to not pass upgrades in a timely manner. They can initiate a community effort and then with a little factory testing the update can be rolled out. but no they dont.

Now, Lumia 900 got here very late, and the timing plain sucks. In 4 months we'll have WP8 phones.
