Thread: Automated Sales calls to my cellphone

Default Automated Sales calls to my cellphone

Just got an automated sales call made to my cellphone number.

Its basically some kind of system which calls you and plays a sales recording. I cut it off pretty quickly. The number it came from was 0871350550. From a quick Google search it appears to be from Clicks.

    Just a heads up.

Of course. I win competitions I don't enter all the time. Just like when I won that UK lottery and they happened to deposit the money incorrectly in some Nigerian dudes account - who was honest enough to want to give it back to me.

What grates my carrot is when you get called, you answer, and then is put immediately on hold while the system waits for the consultant.

I just terminate the call, it just is very rude and is not worth my time.

If they want to speak to me, they can jolly well phone my number themselves and not have some computerized system do it.

Its quite irritating when real people are making these calls. But this is a sign of things to come, and it means its going to be easier for companies to pester you on your cell. Not good at all

My new strategy to deal with spam calls (automated or direct) is to answer the phone, tell them to hold on and leave the phone unattended until they hang up. This will cost the company more and the agents will not make their sale targets if everybody does this.

An other idea I had: When a company like Planet Fitness spam calls I'm going to tell them I'm not interested but know somebody that will be, and then give them the mobile number / direct number of their CEO to spam call. Let the companies eat their own cake...

I've heard that they use computer systems to dial numbers at random at a high rate just to identify active cellphone numbers.
By answering, you're letting them know that your cell number has a human being at the other end who answers, making you a target for marketing calls.

It's a way to filter potential cold-call targets. This is why I don't answer calls from unknown, blocked, private or unidentified numbers. If I don't recognise it, my phonebook doesn't recognise it, or it doesn't display the number the call doesn't get answered.

EDIT: Although now that I am on 8ta, I am tempted to answer and keep them hanging for as long as possible to score the free talk time What's that? You're selling overpriced underdefined crappy insurance for something I don't need on terms that don't favour me? Of course, yes, I am absolutely interested. Please tell me ALL about it, from the beginning. And you have to go slowly, I need to take notes.

I used to leave the guys on hold, but then they would drop it and call again. Now i just cut the call immediately, saves me my time too.
