Thread: How long do you take to buy a car?

  1. #1

Question How long do you take to buy a car?

I find it strange that people can take days if not weeks or longer simply to buy a car. All three cars I have had was bought in a single day and I do not regret a single one of them.

So what is it that makes people waste so much time when buying cars?

with proper planning, it should not take more than 4 days to get a car.

if you are happy with what banks are offering you, then one day is enough. But its always good to negotiate.

My first car was a Ford Bantam. When I bought my first Opel I was also looking at a Corolla, Polo and Clio but made up my mind quickly and never regretted it.

Still don't get why some people take more than a day.

I took 4 days. Went test driving for 3 of them. 1 day I had to work.

I test drove about 5 or 6 cars so couldn't have done it in one day even if I wanted to.

The people who sold them to you were more eager to get rid of it. They are Opels after all, you take what you can get

A better question would be how many cars did you test drive when looking for a car?

I know someone who only test drove the car he bought. Didn't even look at other options. He had a polo, crashed it, and wanted another one.

I don't understand how people can do this. It's a crap load of money to use on an "impulse buy".

It took me a year and a half.

A year to decide which car I want, doing test drives, reading reviews, evaluating the cost.

Then when I decided on the car I wanted, it took them 6 months to build it and ship it to me.

Well, if you do not do proper research, weigh up all your options and test drive all the vehicles... you are being stupid. Then you still have to play the financing houses against each other to get the best rate. This also takes time.

Rouxenator, you do not regret any of your purchases, because your standards are VERY low

My quickest was leaving home at two in the afternoon, and seeing a car that I wanted at the local garage - and I was at home with my car at four thirty that afternoon.

On average, from deciding to get a car to having it in my garage usually takes about 2 days maximum - I need instant gratification.

    What did you get?

Alfa Giulietta QV. The reason why they had to build it is because they had none in the country, or in their order books, with the specs I wanted.

I did not test drive any of my cars, I bought from reputable dealers so I knew there would not be any problems. I also knew enough about all the options to make a choice without having to sleep on it or waste any time. I had enough money to either buy it cash or finance more than half of it, so there was no messing around with finance houses. If you struggle to get finance then you are probably buying outside your league.

What I am trying to say is that if you cannot do it in a day then you are doing it wrong. I still admire Fazda for when he bought his Polo - the man saw a good deal and got it - and when it comes to cars I think Fazda knows a little more than most of us.
