    Default price of prepaid data

Normally do not buy data as I have a very good contract via MTN.
I need a topup either on voda or MTN.
Looked at the price for 1 gig - R289
    Is this right????
Are the cell networks on crack?
Have not had to check on the pricing for a long time.
Please someone tell me I am wrong

Only way to get cheaper with those 2 is 24 month contract.
8ta has a decent 2GB + 1GB prepaid special for R149(valid till end of the next month you buy it)
Cell C 3GB valid 365 days for R399 (remember they work on 900UMTS tho)

I cannot believe how they are screwing us.
Obviously the fact that I have not had to purchase data for a long time shows I didn't know.

    What a bloody disgrace.

    Default Data charges in SA

Guys being a BB user for so long I have not had to buy data for a long long time.
I am shocked that the pricing has stayed the same or actually become worse.
I remember paying R189-00 for what a gig?

How in gods name can the networks justify these prices and how are we supporting this??
    I fell sick

Do any of you know what the breakdown of costs are for the network? I would love to know although doubt anyone really knows or will say.

How can they justify nearly R400 for 2 gigs?

Mobile data is so expensive for no reason. I guess if you are a user who uses small amounts of data (i.e: 2GB data) then these mobile plans are better.

ADSL is R19 per GB, which is up to 10mbps. I do not get why mobile data is so expensive. Same goes for roaming.

    8ta has 60GB (+60GB night surfer [11pm-5am]) for R1800, valid for 1 year:

3G seems to be a cash cow for the cellphone operators, almost like alcohol at a restaurant. We are being raped.

and they seems to be a major push to contracts, i guess it's the guaranteed income that makes the price gap so huge.

Due to work I have been looking at getting some prepaid data. After looking at the prices, I'll just browse on my ultra-slow Crapberry thank you.

    R19 R500 a month.

They could afford to give us cheaper data World Cup time. Why did the government just forced them for a certain period? 2000000 million users paying outrages prices will not rake in more money than 10 000 000 users who can afford it thanks to low data prices.

Currently using the 8ta 10GB postpaid deal that is a 24 month contract for just R199 a month. Don't have any complaints about the speed either.

The postpaid option is better than the prepaid for me as a cash strapped South African who cannot afford the high upfront payment for the prepaid deals of operators. Plus I think 8ta's 3GB at R149 is also great for topping up when you need it, and it will last until the end of the next month.

I have opted to use a modem from vodacom called Wi-Fi R205 and bought the 8ta 10GB+10GB for R299 per month. It works great. I am walking with an S3 and the modem in my pocket. I also use it for the game consoles and iPad.
