omg they are useless, I want to know why things like Telkom, desktop upgrade, etc, have been been declined - they can't tell me... I must file an objection... I did that, and in the objection I asked why they were declined, all I got after a month was a revised assessment where they were still declined, with no reason... How am I supposed to object against something if they won't give me the reason for declining it?

Anyone know what the difference is between an objection and appeal?

    I've now lodged an appeal.

And I've requested assistance from the monitoring office - I can't keep doing this not knowing why they're declining everything... I just noticed they declined all my flights and car rental as well...

Yep. You must disclose all your interest etc gained to SARS. But for the 2012/2013 season the first ~R22800 is tax free.

I'm no tax guru. The above is subject to a whole lot of buts and ifs and and and and...

Not on the first ~R22800 interest earned no
There are so many ways to use and invest your money in such a way that you minimize your tax liability. Retirement Annuities are one such a way as you get multiple tax advantages with RA's. In short you need to have a look at all the different deductions allowed under our income tax laws ... and then see how you can (ab)use your money to make use of as many of the deductions as possible.

So my tax return was selected for an audit on the 2nd July. It has now gone to the enforcement department and risk analysis center. I now have to wait 60 working days to get any further feedback from SARS.

Is there no other person/department I could contact for assistance from SARS except for the call centre?

i will have to. i find it pathetic that they even tax savings. why don't they try to tax the 'informal' sector. but its easy to put the burden on the same suckers..

Any idea which forms we should request/submit?

Normally when i log in there is a form ready from my employer. I think its an it12 form or some such.

I requested an irp6 form for 1st half of 2012 and im told the submission is overdue. Im guessing this was the wrong thing.

Which forms do we submit and for which tax period? Mar2010 to feb2011?

I submitted two weeks ago. Went smooth until the selected me for audit and required me to send through all my docs which I did. Got my assessment back and I get back a huge amount but for some reason they only pay out on 1st September. Last year I also had to submit docs but the money came within a week. Guess they want to earn another month's worth of interest from my money. Still, its a nice number I am getting back. Essentially a 14th cheque.

Doubt it. The assesment had a header that indicated the payment date as 2012/09/01. First year I have seen that.

Yeh - they've paid me out twice already since July, and mine has the same.
