Thread: WP7.8 build brings the new WP8 home start screen to existing WP7.5 devices

Default WP7.8 build brings the new WP8 home start screen to existing WP7.5 devices

The Lumia 900 demoed with WP 7.8 showing the new start screen.

I'm so pissed off right now. I understand why the current phones can't get WP8, but Nokia got shafted here.

I really wanted a Lumia 900. The Batman one of course. I'm ditching that plan though. 7.8 is as far as it goes for the poor Lumia. And that's where it will stay forever. Since it can't get the WP8, it makes no sense to buy it any more. Being tied down to a two year contract with a phone that has two year old software at premium pricing? No thanks. Now I have to start looking around again. Maybe get the Motorola Razr or Galaxy S3? Same pricing as Lumia900 (it seems)

Yeah I would not go for a Windows Phone 7 device right now. My choice would be an iPhone 4S

That's getting hardware update before year end, and the options are quite expensive when looking at some other options. Not feeling like paying 200 more pm just to have iphone.

So MS basically just killed off all WP sales for the next few months

The 7.8 update is still quite nice. I like that they're bringing the homescreen options from WP8.

It's basically lip service, I'd be pretty pissed if the only update I got was the ability to resize squares

This is why I ditched MS phones, my last one was stuck with an horrible old OS that they kept promising would get updated but never did.

But Windows phone 7 was already updated quite nicely to 7.5. And now an update to Tango and then this (7.8) This is at least better than Android phones, most of which never get updated.

Good point @Synaesthesia. Damn. Now I'm stuck again. Lumia900, S3, OneX? Or wait for something new? I find the iphone boring, and since everybody has one I'd like something different. Hopefully I can find some nice specials soon.

Tango and Mango were required for features already available on other OS's, with some still missing. If you have a gingerbread phone you don't actually need any updates since you already have all the features already
