He didn't demand anything, the OP, he asked for clarification and got treated as if he is an idiot and yes, it does sound racist to me, telling him, if he could speak English, wtf, that is so patronizing. Even the other employee didn't know what the sign meant, hence having to call the manager to ask

Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself. I am large, I contain multitudes.

I would have insisted on the advertised price for BOTH.
Fanta AND coke for R14.99 is self explanatory.
Fanta OR coke is equally self explanatory.
Fanta AND coke R14.99 each, also self explanatory.
Fanta AND Coke != Fanta OR Coke.
@OP. You were too soft on them.
EDIT: Not a race thing. Manager just too stupid to understand the fundamentals of the English language.
R14.99 for one 2l is not a special in anyway... now R14.99 for both would be a great special...
MTN has very poor customer service and PR skills: MTN doesn't take fraud cases seriously
Thanks Messuga, I did email Spar HO, still awaiting their response and i wasn't actually too worried about the racial issue as I was with the service as this is the nearest spar to me and I can't have bad relations with at all. That's where I run to when I run out of milk in my fridge.
We rather wait for the petrol price drop before we start to burn down Spar....
I'm pretty sure the manager thought the customer was being impossible by trying to score 2x2litres for R15,through a grammatical error.
That attitude would annoy anyone, black and white.
Not much of a manager if you can't address grammatical errors instore...
Like mentioned earlier the manager needs to go for ENG101
R14.99 isn't much of a special anyway... All the other retailers will tell you that is pretty much the normal price of a 2l.
Pathetic incident of customer service, the manager needs to go for a short course in CRM through Unisa![]()
Spar is a franchise. Each Spar is owned by a private individual (or two) and not by Spar; they own the franchise. The manager is employed by the store owner and not by Spar. Rather try to get the store owner's email address and communicate directly with him/her for better results. Also, as advised here, stay away from making it an racial issue and emphasise the poor customer service and rudeness that you experienced.
Celine: "I'm not saying you're stupid, I just think you have bad luck when it comes to thinking."
It's true you know, white people never get bad service. All white people have a deep intimate love for one another, and we never get annoyed with each other. It's only when a person of another colour comes meddling. Sometimes we like to team up against them.
Is this more or less what you wanted to hear OP ?
