Is this more or less what you wanted to hear OP ?

Next time I go to a Spar, I'll be sure to demand two 2 litre bottles for the price of one and then pull the race card when I don't get what I want.
You sound like a very emotional person - the fact that you assumed this guy waked in and demanded something. He didn't pull the race card because he didn't get two bottles of cooldrink, he made an assumption that he was treated badly because the shop manager was white and he was black. I do think that half of that is true - he was treated badly because he was black (but not because the manager was white). I think most of us here would agree that the shop manager wouldn't have behaved like he did towards a white customer. Perhaps the shop manager assumed he wanted a freebie, I don't know, but whatever it was, his reaction was based on assumption. Seems you didn't read it properly.

Hehe, you have gotta love the internet.

I am the opposite of an emotional person. I just don't have time for crap. Apparently others do.

But yes, as was mentioned above, white people (and coloured people) never get bad service either. So sad, that 18 years after democracy we are even talking about this.

This was, at best, bad service (it's a Spar, not Harrods) but from what the OP said in his OP, it was extremely difficult to make out any racism at all.

But see it as you will.

The owner? Where did you read that? (amongst other things...)

White (and coloured people) do get bad service sometimes.

Hmm... spar/harrods? I don't care if it was tweebokkemeteenskootdoodgeskietsfontein's corner cafe. The guy had a valid point in being annoyed with a manager of a national franchise who treated him like a poepall instead of just calmly telling him 'sorry, it could have been clearer'.

It wasn't too hard to see the racism to me - like I said, black people generally get treated worse than whites in my experience (from what I have observed). My point is, that's not because the person treating them is not black (so it's not racism per se)... then again, perhaps it is racism? Does racism imply that the perpetrator is a different race to you? Perhaps two people of the same racial origin can treat each other worse than they treat other races... and perhaps that is still racism?

    Interesting argument!

I guess you have never had to run any kind of business offering any kind of a service to customers. Some questions are more reasonable than others. Also, I agreed that at best there is a service issue here, at best. There is not a race issue. Not everything in South Africa is a race issue.

I did for 7 years. Service orientated.... and I tell you what I would have done in that instance. I would have spent R15 of my own money and given him two for the price of one, thanked him for pointing out the error, then corrected it. And I tell you what, I would have had a happy customer and gone home feeling good.

I tell you what, I have told you that I agree that there was a SERVICE issue, not a RACE issue. Good. Ness.

You edited in the last part so I didn't see it to begin with.

I am off to the shops to look for more 2-for-1 bargains. Wish me luck.
